Innovation, energy, and mindset. Sometimes, the right combination of these can spark transformative change—especially when tackling financial survival and sustainability.
One of my nonprofit clients, deeply passionate about biodiversity conservation, faced a challenge that threatened their very existence. Despite their dedication to the mission, they were struggling to define a sustainable business model. Financial strain threatened their survival.
During a strategic working session with their leadership team, we did a deep dive into their true financial picture. We also made sure that the full leadership team—not just the top executives—understood the challenges and constraints.
Consequently, while sparking some delicate and challenging conversations, this session also reignited passion among the team. This team’s focus shifted from simply surviving to thriving. Alignment and idea generation began to energize them.
Out of these conversations came a rallying cry that united their leadership team: “Surthrival.” This term captured the perfect balance of their immediate need to survive while holding space for their long-term vision to thrive.
With a renewed focus on possibility—and learning from past roadblocks—they committed to a positive mindset and a team-wide effort to turn “surthrival” into action. Over the last 12 months, they’ve done just that:
✨ Improved their financial outlook
✨ Strengthened collaboration among their leadership team
✨ Excelled in advancing their mission
Things are definitely looking up for this resilient organization.
Ultimately, this is the power of collective energy, innovation, and staying true to your purpose.
Have you or your organization faced a similar challenge and come out stronger?
