2021 marked the 15th year of Howard Consulting and it has been quite the ride! It feels like I blinked and 15 years flew by!

Thank you for riding along with me! I so appreciate you.

I started my company in 2006 – subcontracting to an IT project manager for a government contractor. Not really knowing where this solopreneur journey might take me, I continued in contract project management roles, working with government contractors, for several years.

In 2013, I was introduced to the nonprofit sector, with people who have dedicated their lives to important missions and I found that I could best use my strengths to help my nonprofit clients build stronger organizations so they can make more impact. I realized that I needed to do more important work in my life, work that warms my heart. And I’ve never looked back.

From Project Manager to Facilitator

I’ve transformed my project management business into a (mostly) virtual facilitation business. Most of my projects involve some level of strategic planning, team development, staff retreats, and virtual event design and implementation.

There have certainly been ups and downs over the years, but I’ve worked with awesome clients who have made it all worthwhile. I’ve had the privilege to support important missions, such as ending homelessness, promoting innovation and advancement for advanced energy, protecting and supporting biodiversity and conservation, improving immunization rates in rural communities and many others. I love what I do!

A couple of years ago, when I looked forward to this 15th year, I thought I might have some kind of celebration to mark this milestone. And then….the pandemic changed my thinking. In fact, in 2020, I was fortunate that I had already been facilitating virtually, so I was able to help many of my nonprofit clients and my colleagues learn how to bring their in-person workshops and events online.

So, how has my work evolved in the last two years?

Like many others, I pivoted and reinvented my business and am now focusing most of my energies around helping nonprofits and associations keep their members, donors, volunteers and clients engaged with their missions. I help them design and deliver engaging and interactive virtual conferences, events, meetings, and retreats to build connection and community. I believe the virtual/online world offers as many opportunities for connection and community as we had when attending in-person events – they are just different. In some cases, I think we have better collaboration options and we certainly have experienced a broader reach since we have no more geographical boundaries online.

I’ve worked with some truly amazing clients this year!

If you donate funds to support nonprofits at the end of the year, here are a few very worthy causes to consider!

What’s Next?

Will there be another 15 years in my future? That’s the plan! We’ll see what at least the next decade will bring. Maybe we’ll have an opportunity to collaborate on something important!

In the meantime, let’s stay in touch!

I wish you all a safe and restful holiday season!

Linda
