October is a month that always creeps up on me. Maybe it’s because Halloween is this month and there are always a lot of creepy critters and sometimes scary things just waiting to jump out and say, “BOO!”

It is also the first month of the last quarter of the year. My 2023 theme was “Action!” While I’ve made progress over the last few months, I still have a list of things I want to accomplish before the end of the year, and I haven’t found a magic way to get time to stand still long enough to get them all finished!

 Ever feel that way?

A Little Reflection Goes a Long Way

October is also a great time to force myself to stop, step back, and ask myself three questions:

  • What have I accomplished so far?
  • What have I learned so far?
  • Between now and December 31, 2023, what could I do to apply those learnings and set myself up to start 2024 on a high note?

This year is not over – in fact, there’s more time than we realize to accomplish our goals.

The air feels fresh and clean, and we still have time to end the year on a positive note – with the anticipation of being able to celebrate our successes when the clock strikes midnight on the last day of 2023!

Q4 The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

While the movie with this title focuses on Christmas, I think Q4 is the “most wonderful time of the year!”

We can celebrate what we’ve accomplished so far this year and we still have time to make things happen!

We can decide how to apply our learnings to finish building out the new ideas we wanted to implement during the year! Or to kick off new goals for next year.

In Q4, let’s choose even ONE strategy—one that, if we spent consistent time every day or every week focusing on only that strategy, we could clearly see the difference it made in our 2023 results. What will that strategy be… for YOU?

I like to imagine meeting with you,  on December 31, 2023, and hearing your story about how your Q4 reflections helped you accomplish more than you thought possible for the year just ending!

Questions to Ask Ourselves

What were some key moments/successes/challenges from 2023 that I want to be sure to remember?

As I look back at 2023 (so far), here are three things I wanted to achieve by the end of the year:

1.
2.
3.

As of ____(date)____, I’ve made the following progress on these three items:

1.
2.
3.

I learned the following this year about myself, my business, my life, etc.:

Today is _________________.  I have ___________ days until December 31st.

Here is one thing I still plan to achieve by the end of 2023:

Achieving this will help me in the following ways:

  1.
  2.
  3.

I will work on this ONE strategy every day or every week for ________ hour(s) to make progress.

I will find support and accountability for accomplishing this in the following ways (people and groups to reach out to, colleagues who can help me, ways I will hold myself accountable, etc.):

  1.
  2.

My BIG goal for 2024 is:

I make myself a commitment to check in with a trusted colleague/peer/friend every quarter to do a goal/progress check-in.

If you want to build your own team’s goals and accountability plans for 2024, get started now!

Q4 is the best time to reflect on 2023 and position yourself to accomplish your big goals for 2024.

If I can help you facilitate these conversations so you can be a part of them, not leading them, let’s talk!
